Police crack-down on red lights atop vehicles

delhi: the traffic police suspect anti-social elements are using
flashing red lights atop their vehicles and began a crackdown
on tuesday. ‘‘the use of these coloured lights has
been rampant by anti-social elements. we would appeal to the authorised
users of those lights to bear with our personnel, as only through
sustained checking of all such vehicles would we be able to catch
the offenders,’’ said joint commissioner of police
(traffic), maxwell pereira. the traffic police, in a statement,
urged motorists to adhere to the restrictions on the use of coloured
lights on top of their vehicles. section 97 of the delhi motor
vehicle rules state that no motor vehicle owner shall fix any
coloured light onb the front and on top of the roof.
