Celebrations, Italian style
A
celebration in advance. That’s what the Italian embassy
did on Saturday evening. Reason? ‘‘It is too hot to
celebrate the occasion on June 2. That is why the government gives
us the liberty to celebrate this day a few months in advance as
per our convenience,’’ said wife of Italian Ambassador
Benedetto Amari, Marigrita.

reminiscent of Bollywood during the 70s — women with their
‘bun’ hair do and saris tightly draped around their
body and men seen with felt hats. Even the conversation had more
to do with Bollywood and Hollywood and the role of media.
But
what caught the eyes of all was the typically Italian menu that
had finite takers. Those spotted on the occasion were Digvijay
Singh (who preferred to stick to the Italian ambassador and his
wife), followed by K C Pant and his wife Ila Pant. Next in line
was the British high commissioner, Sir Rob Young with wife Lady
Catherine, Romesh Bhandari, fashion designers Asheema and Leena,
Bishan Narayan Singh, Jt CP (traffic) Maxwell Pereira, diplomats...
