A
book for art, of art, by the artists... Lalit
Kala Akademi is known for promoting art; and to make that fact
popular, a book on the efforts of the Akademi, titled Lalit Kala
Contemporary Anniversary , has been written.
Monday
evening (February 16) saw the official launch of the book as lovers
of art and books gathered at a leading five star hotel to celebrate
and cheer.
It
was a warm evening with a select few that began with the ambassador
of Germany Fiorenza Richter welcoming all. Union Minister for
Disinvestment Arun Shourie launched the book, the cover of which
has been designed by renowned artist Anjolie Ela Menon.
While
the guests browsed through the book that encompasses a wide range
of artists and their works, editor Betty Saldanha let on about
the quarterly publication saying, ‘‘This book is divided
into several parts, one of which comprises an introduction to
new artists. Some of the names we have in this issue are Catherine
Young, Liz Illman, Dinesh Kurekar, Jyoti Sharma, Keshav
Malik, Payal Mohanka and Shabnam Mehra.’’ She added
that the book throws light on international art and artists and
hence would make people appreciate and learn art, rather than
disparage it.
The
evening was followed by cocktails. This was just the excuse needed
to let one’s hair down and mingle. And the crowd did just
that. Many were seen enjoying coffee with rich chocolate pastries.
Seen
having a good time through out the event was chairman, Apeejay
Surendra Group, Shireen Paul who looked elegant in a black salwar
kameez . Convener Lalit Kala Akademi Sushma Behl, Edmund and Megan
Marsden of British Council and Maxwell Pereira were also part
of the lovely evening.
